Perhaps there isn't much point in deliberating over why certain things happen. After all, causal links are impossible to establish. What one can be sure of is that a certain event has followed another. Nothing else.
Gravity has always caused objects with mass to come together. They would still come together regardless of whether we know "why". Science never managed to answer "why". It only managed to model the environment. And this model is a powerful tool and helping us find out if certain things can be done, and what will happen if certain things are done. They can never answer why.
